I am going to do a project on marketing mix. Please give me a good or service which will be comfortable to do my project. It should involve maximum phenomenon that comes in the 4P’s. Thank you.

This is just an example, (as its already been used..) Try a similar airline that is the cheapest in your area/country.

Ryanair Case Study.
Ryanair Marketing Mix.

Ryanair is the European low cost airline. Low cost or no frills marketing strategies are of great interest to marketers since the marketing mix employed tends to run in opposition to what makes a great brand - and Ryanair is a great brand and a very successful business. In a nutshell Ryanair sells the cheapest tickets that you can buy (on most occasions).

Its charismatic boss Michael O’Leary has a business model with a central focus on cost reduction (and making money of course!). In around 20 years he has taken Ryanair from a single plane company to become the largest airline in Europe. He had a vision and achieved it through masterful leadership. So how did he do it? How does Michael O’Leary retain his narrow cost focus niche strategy in the face of intense competition? The business simply has lower costs and those costs are passed on to their passengers in the form of low fares.

The branded airlines argue that passengers are willing to pay more for a better level of service. You can pre-assign seats. You get food and drink onboard, and can choose a higher level of service e.g. business class. However the large flag carriers have taken notice of the low-cost model and have employed it as part of their own more differentiated business model.

In 2009 the company settled for 30% of its local Irish rival Aer Lingus after a prolonged takeover bid. Tough trading conditions meant that Ryanair made its first annual loss in 2008/9. O’Leary put this down firmly to rising fuel costs (as did British Airways in the same year). The company also needed to take into account the burden of purchasing its stake in Air Lingus. So in reality things are looking good for Ryanair and its budget operation - since the business aimed to fly double the amount of passengers 2009/10.

Let’s take a closer look at Ryanair’s marketing mix:
Product or Service.

* Low cost, no frills air travel to European destinations.
* There is no free food or drink onboard. Food and drink are income streams. You buy them onboard, or you don’t - take your own food and drink if you like.
* There are other income streams - or ancillary revenue. The company has deals with Hertz car rental, and a number of hotel businesses. So Ryanair takes a commission on ‘up selling’ i.e. ancillary revenue. Other examples include phone cards and bus tickets. About 16% of profit is made this way. This keeps costs lower.

Price

* Ryanair has low fares.
* 70% of seats are sold at the lowest two fares.30% of seats are charged at higher fares. The last 6% are sold at the highest fare
* Ryanair occasionally get in trouble with bodies such as the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) in the UK over differences between advertised and actual price - in fairness to Ryanair these are rare mistakes.

Place

* Ryanair does not use travel agents so it does not pay agency commissions. It uses direct marketing techniques to recruit and retain customers, and to extend products and services to them (i.e. Customer Relationship Management). This reduces costs.
* You book online over the Internet. This saves them 15% on agency fees.
* They are based in Stanstead in Essex - which is known as a secondary airport. It is new and accessible. It is cheaper to fly from Stanstead than either Heathrow or Gatwick, and since it is less busy Ryanair can turn aircraft around more quickly.
* Many of Ryanair’s destination airports are secondary. For example if you fly to Copenhagen (Denmark) you arrive in Malmo (Sweden) - although it is only a short coach trip over the border. Secondary airports, which tend to be smaller regional airports, depend upon this single carrier - some (it is rumored) paying up to £100, 000 for each additional new route. Costs are lower and aircraft can be turned around faster.
* Keeping aircraft in the air as much as possible is another important part of the low cost jigsaw. However, the company has been challenged by the European Union in relation to anti-competition laws.

Promotion

* They spend as little as possible on advertising.
* They do not employ an advertising agency. Instead all of the advertising is done in-house. In fact O’Leary himself overseas much of the promotion of Ryanair. They use simple adverts that tell passengers that Ryanair has low fares.
* Ryanair employs controversy to promote its business. For example in 2009, the company reasoned that passengers would be charged £1 to use the toilets on board. O’Leary reasoned that passengers could use the terminals at either the destination or arrival airport. This would speed things up. It was reasoned that this is what passengers wanted - since they did not want other passengers leaving their seats and walking the aisles to go to the toilet. O’Leary also a

How do I go about applying for a small business loan?

Posted on December 31st, 2009 by admin in business | 2 Comments »

-I’m 22 yrs old.

***Am I too young to be approved for a business loan?

-I am about $4000 in debt (from medical bills only) but I have small monthly payment plans that I’m keeping up with.

***If you can prove that you are paying your debts off and that they are only medical related—can you still be approved for a small business loan?

***What is the minimum amount they usually give for a small business loan? What is the usual amount?

***When applying for one, do you apply in person, or on paper? Do you have a chance to show your business plans to the bank? Because I want them to know how profitable it will be, and how quickly I’d be able to pay the loan back.

Basically what I’m asking in all of this is:
Is applying for a small business loan very black and white, or does it all depend on if they trust that your business, specifically, will be successful enough to pay back the loan?

***********Also: Any tips?

Just curious, what kind of business do you plan on opening? Because I’m the same age and looking to open my own business as well, but not sure what I want to do. Thanks.

Can promotion become the dominant force driving pervasive ineptitude ?

Posted on December 31st, 2009 by admin in promotion | 4 Comments »

Following promo0tion a person is likely to regress to their baseline competence, losing that extra something that prompted their rise. That baseline might be above or below the degree of competence demanded in the new high-level job. If in a particular workplace the staff who are promoted consistently fall short in this respect, promotion can become the dominant force driving pervasive ineptitude.

Yes it can but only when they feel either confident in their position and or can easily manipulate others :)

How does advertising work for the recording and movie industry?

Posted on December 28th, 2009 by admin in advertising | 1 Comment »

Technically, the recording and movie industry do not generate their income through advertising, so how does advertising work for them?

In a way they do generate their income that way. By advertising, there are usually two benefactors: the product being advertised and the sponsor of the advertisement.

The sponsor is given credit for the advertisement in hopes that people will buy THEIR product, and often they do.
The recording or movie industry is putting their product out there, so it is likely to be bought by consumers as well.

Without advertisements, a product would never be seen and therefore never purchased by consumers.

How can I get a good business credit score to apply for loans and credit cards?

Posted on December 28th, 2009 by admin in business | 10 Comments »

I have a business but need financing to fund the venture. I was told to form the business and then go to the bank. I went looking like a total idiot. I have bad credit, no money, no collateral. The Rep told me that I have to have great business credit and to come back when I have a 80 Paydex score. I left thing WTF. Please help!

Unlike the other scams and useless sites that others are posting I in fact have actual experience in Building Business Credit.

If I were you I would just go to SFGCredit.com whether you are trying to build your business yourself, or if you need assistance they can help you. I have tried every other site out there and there is no one that will offer as much material as SFG for that low of a price.

I have a Sports store here in California and I used that site to help get the capital. Im not going to say how much I got exactly, but anyone can get over $250k at least. Its not rocket science. Do the research

Now is especially a good time to build business credit as the banks are starting to lend more.

What type of business should I mark my business to operate as?

Posted on December 23rd, 2009 by admin in business | 2 Comments »

I’m almost done with my business plan. I’m stuck on something. I don’t know sould I operate my business as a Corporation or Sole Prietorship if I’m planning to run a photography and graphic designing business with employees I’m planning to hire which will include a secretary, assistant, graphic designer and a beautican. Please help I’m planning to open and start at the beginning to 2010.

First off, let me congratulate on your business venture. I’m so excited for you because of the strong passion I have for business and hopefully you will gain one to. I wish you the best of luck and I hope to quickly here from you about the success you are having with your company. From personal experience this will be a task you won’t regret, but at the same time please understand that it will be challenging.

Now to answer your question on if you should operate a business as a corporation or sole prietorship, you first need to understand the difference between a corporation and a sole prietorship. If you chose to go the sole prietorship option, than a question u need to be prepared to answer is are you willing to put up personal assets for the sake of your company. In other words, if things go wrong with your company are you willing to put up your house or car. Yes you will be able to gain all profits but if things go wrong you are the only one responsible for all aspects of the business as a sole prietorship. With a corporation you will have to pay more and higher taxes. On the other hand all debts will be divided amongst all owners. I personal would use the corporation option because it is less risky. Again I wish you the best of luck and hopefully I answered your question. If you have any other questions pertaining to business, than don’t hesistate to send me a email.

what are the problem faced by the companies having multi branding ?

Posted on December 23rd, 2009 by admin in branding | 1 Comment »

if some companies have multi brands , then what are the problem faced ?

From personal experience of having worked for an organisaiton who had multiple brands I guess the main problem we faced was trying to make each brand stand out as a separate entity yet looking as part of the same organisational banner. This was quite a challenge, but if you get the marketing strategy and concepts right it can be done quite well. I think Cadbury’s and Kellogg’s are a perfect example.

I want to get into advertising but I don’t know where to start?

Posted on December 20th, 2009 by admin in advertising | 3 Comments »

I would love to work for an advertising company, and work writing commercials.

What do I need to major in? What kind of internships should I do? Should I get an associates, bachelors, or masters degree? Is the pay decent in advertising?

I just graduated with a Bachelor’s in Advertising. It is a fun career path to take! You should check out www.betterthanschool.com. That’s where I found the school that I am going to to get my Master’s. It gives a good description of the requirements for the degree and what career options you can do with your degree. I would say go for your Bachelor’s then go for your Master’s. Pay isn’t the best at first but it is easy to build your way up! I would like to say that it is a very rewarding career. Best of luck to you! Let me know if you have any questions!

Could a business career be attainable with a philosophy or politics major and a business minor?

Posted on December 20th, 2009 by admin in business | 1 Comment »

I’m currently an undergrad at a liberal arts school. I’m planning on majoring in either politics or philosophy, and a minor in business. After i get my degree, would i be capable of getting hired or nonetheless get an interview with a firm or bank. Also, could a business internship help the situation?

A business internship would definitely help.

May I suggest majoring in business if that major is available, in which case you could minor in politics or philosophy. As you can take additional politics or philosophy courses as electives in addition to those required for a minor, you could still get a good education in one of those subjects.

If a major in business is not available, I would suggest that you take as electives any additional available business courses which are not required for the minor. I would also suggest taking additional business courses during the summer at the most prestigious university possible during any summer in which you do not have an internship. Some of the most prestigious universities in the country, including Harvard and Stanford, often admit for the summer only students at any other properly accredited university or college upon the student’s completion of a simple form and payment of the tuition fee. In that case be sure to have official transcripts sent to your college.

how do I find best affiliate marketers?

This information seems impossible to find, and there are so many cons. Is there a reliable source to find out who the best affiliate marketers are?

John(one of the top internet marketers) shows you step-by-step his exact system for earning a full-time income online fast. And best of all… he’s giving it to you ABSOLUTELY FREE!

It’s valued at $197 so I’d encourage you to act now. He is a generous guy but I don’t know how long he will be offering it at no charge.
