How and why has the purpose and process of branding changed over time?

I’m trying to do a small report but I’m stumped. Just a little bit of help would be very appreciated, I don’t need a long winding explanation, like 3 or 4 lines. Oh and by the way this is not the cows branding, this is billabong, element, etc (corporations)
Help very appreciated, thanks :)
A good brand name sets a thousand no name products in the market!
It is the multiplicity of No Name products make the branded products a status symbol!

I am sorry did I miss a previous thread?

Go back to the definition of what branding is.

Think about some significant changes in the last 40 years for example.

Hint Keywords & phrases: Technology, Communication, World Politics, Instant Gratification, The Internet, Laws, Your Cell Phone (IPOD), Multimedia, Speed to market, etc…

Every product and company has a history!

Example, everybody has heard of Intel (the chip manufacturer). Did you know over 30+ years ago they almost went out of business? The used to produce memory, the Japanese drove almost everyone out of business because they could make it faster & cheaper. They reinvented themselves! When you think of PCs, you see their emblem on the keyboard.

Billabong, uses people as walking billboards, and associates themselves with a "lifestyle". Think, I don’t recall "Billabong" in an actual "traditional" commercial.

    Youtube!

    Today, branding is a science!
