Is branding safe or does it leave scaring and infection?
My Master wants to brand me as a sign of ownership .. but i am afraid of scaring and infection. Branding is an art in some circles …does anyone know anything specifically about the procedure itself?
If indeed you consider yourself an owned woman you still need to *think* about this so very carefully. Your ability to think, and understand what you are asking about will no doubt be your guide to find the right answer. Today may be great interest and desire for you to do something pleasing, but tomorrow or the next day, or the next day everything can change in your life. Further, I must encourage you to research the damages and signifigance in that action to your body for a lifetime.
A body, a mind, and a life can be owned on terms but those terms usually end.
"Complications arising from the procedure include acute infection, transmission of blood-borne pathogens, allergic reactions, and sequelae arising from third-degree burns. In addition, skin branding has been shown to be associated with substance abuse and high-risk behaviors among adolescents." Quoted from the website of Aesthic Science.
Hello,
Humm… is your Master a Gorean, by any chance? : )
I think the main problem is that branding is very hit-and-miss. It’s not an exact science, it’s a clumsy process of applying a hot iron (obviously). There is no precision as to how hot the iron is, - it’s informed guesswork, at best.
There’s an awful lot of ways this could go wrong. I guess your Master has never done this before, which would make you his first guinea-pig. You are right to be concerned about scarring and infection. A brand heals by "secondary intention," as doctors call it, and so infection and scarring are almost certain. Scarring can go "keloid," like this, - http://dermnetnz.org/doctors/lesions/images/keloid2.jpg (This is a keloid scar due to burns).
Unintentionally deep burning, will go right through the skin and damage whatever happens to be underneath at that point. Nerves and tendons and blood-vessels, I mean.
Tetanus, ("Lock-jaw") is one possible, dangerous type of infection.
I once worked as a Plastic Surgeon in a uk "Regional Burns Unit," and burns are pretty horrid, really they are. An unintentionally deep brand could easily leave you needing a skin-graft. Here’s a pic of a limb burn which has been skin-grafted, with about an 80% "take,"… http://k43.pbase.com/o4/66/248066/1/62863782.7aTo9Oxj.IMG_6453web.jpg
I think there is some legal question, too, depending on where you live in the world, - as to whether you can give valid legal consent to being branded. Branding you could make your Master a criminal, (by his causing you "grievous bodily harm.").
Clearly I am very much against this, as a retired doctor, but it is, I suppose, up to you. If you *really must* go ahead with it, I can only suggest you try a very tiny, point brand, (like just a paperclip-end dot), somewhere inconspicuous, first, and see how that goes. Immediately afterward, put lots of cold water on it to halt the burning process in the skin.
Don’t put an alcohol-containing antiseptic on the skin before doing this, - - the alcohol will catch fire…
You may not stick with this Master, and then you will have a brand which is likely to put other men off.
It sounds good in in the Gor books, but please remember that the girls in that series are wholly expendable !
I wish you well,
Belliger

Heavens!!! What era do we live in? I cannot believe slavery is still so alive in the 21st century. Not only w ill you be scarred and infected, but could meet you could meet your maker much before you are due to. Think carefully before you engage in such a thing! I thought that process was reserved for animals.

Humm I was just thinking about your question. You own an animal that you are considering branding, but you are connected emotionally to it and are feeling very uncomfortable. So you asked the question from your pets point of view. Interesting…talk with a good Animal doctor.
Definitely a problem for serious infection and scaring. Talk to some of the burn unit Medical EMS guys that have been in Vietnam or Iraq. Burns are a horrible painful thing and hard to fix.
Tattoos are not exactly wonderful either. years later when a person has regained their own personality and are trying to get good jobs or friends. They find that people avoid them. There are many many people that go into getting the Tattoos removed at a huge expense and pain.trying to show they are not rebellious anymore. Can you imagin how a person with a brand would feel. But your animal is a different type of situation.

Burns are notoriously prone to infection. Scarring is likely.
I am sure precautions to reduce the instance of infection is possible. Treat the area with betadine. Make sure the brand is sterilized and has no chunks of dirt or coal or whatever on it from the fire (if that’s the type of fire you’re using). The brand should be pretty clean if it is red hot. After the branding the wound should be treated with triple antibiotic ointment and covered with a sterile bandage. The person applying the bandage and ointment should be wearing sterile gloves and avoid breathing or coughing upon the wound. Change daily with new ointment. First sign of pus, or a lot of swelling and redness around the brand then see a doctor.
Ritual branding like any body mutiliation art has risks of infection, but you can manage those and just be ready to seem medical attention (and antibiotics!!). Your biggest enemy is Pseudomonas (so if your brand is oozing green, you’re in trouble. The other big enemy is Staph aureus. Potentially dangerous and maybe fatal soft tissue infections can occur.
