Do you think that marketers seek to manipulate consumers and convince them to spend money that they don’t have?
Marketers are the target of a lot of criticism. The current economic crisis – fueled in part by consumer overspending – is a phenomenon that has lead some critics to question whether or not marketing itself is really ethical.
1) Do you think that marketers seek to manipulate consumers and convince them to spend money that they don’t have?
2) Have you ever felt like this was happening to you?
first off consumer spending is what a economy needs to bounce back…. the overspending thing only refers to the government ok? don’t get all that information from news b/c even news programs are sadly very biassed and wrong. marketing is ethical… people need to spend money and most products are tarketed to a certain audience.. and that in turn provide sales tax, trickle down economy… and as of right now the econmoy is bad b/c of real estate realtors and banks and people NOT PAYING BACK THIER LOANS. plus large conglomerates that do nothing really overspending. its not your average supermarket, your clothes store, your video game shop, and so on. the stock market for banks and money lenders are what fuckked up the economy and its the same as the great depression.. the large comanpies always fuck everything up. and banks … only some of your money is kept their in cash.. rest is all digital as of being in that bank its non existent cept in a computer somewhere. well when stock market crashed people panic( another example of human stupidity) peopel rush to banks to draw out all that money and the bank only has so much to give thus not all the people get thier money. in times like depressions people don’t spend enough to raise the economy back to what it should be and thus peopel lose jobs simply b/c people don’t think …. the economy needs money to bounce back and thus the government overspends on programs such as healthcare for poor, worker’s compensation, and unemployment and b/c theres no one spending theres no jobs. see? everything affects everything.when they should be saving money people dont( should save when economy is up! that way inflation doesnt happen) when theres less money in circulation money value goes up when more is in circulation money value goes down which is why peopel should be saving in high economies. the economy always dipds back and forth and only is made worse by people not paying loans, tax dodgers( when one person doesnt pay alot suffer) realtors lying about actually housing worth( that’s unethical but i rent for that one reason) but your average sellers like everyday grocery stores, video game shops, small chain stores, small resturants are not to blame and overspending isnt to blame for bad economy. another problem is peopel buying real estate thinking they can sell it for a profit( another example of human greed) and all the sudden they find out … thier house isnt worth what the realtors said it was. and now they can’t afford to pay for the house they just bought.
so no marketing itself is ethical.. its the large scale money lenders, real estate market and banks , credit card companies and stock market thats again to blame. but tis also americans b/c they don’t make products that americans want to buy thats sturdy, safe( ford recalls 4.5 million cars)our american made electronics suck… even our animation is done overseas b/c people want too many benefits.. and companies want too much profit so therefore we spend overseas its better made, its safer, its cheaper.. and lasts longer…. catch 22…. people would buy american products if it was made better but b/c they are greedy they make it cheap. its also credit card debt… americans know no sense of willpower.. the average american is idiotic with money b/c we don’t have competant teacher teaching math and economy studies, very few know how to do thier own taxxes ( which is surprinsgly simple i do my own)… america for such a great country has one of the worst education systems in the world… third world countries top it. which leads to stupid choices with credit cards they ca’t pay back. americans are very selfish… very selfish… and spoiled.. and most don’t want to save up for soemthing and so they use a credit card and don’t pay it back… its not the makerters fault… its how they make a living.
look at your products u buy next time.. most made in asian countries.. why? they are smarter than us, arent as greedy .. they make do with less … most live in smaller houses or apartments ( can’t say that for average american.. we even need access room) they are hardworking b/c they are taught froma early age how to be good with money, work hard, are smarter… if we taught our kids better they’d be better functioning adults, who spend wisely and ding ding ding! buy houses and pay back loans….. and so on and so forth. but right now its video games and groceries and impluse buys that are keepignt he jobs we have now.
next time u see soemthing on news.. don’t belive it all…. even the news is not impartial and many times people pay that news station to say what they want.

In the majority of cases yes, I do believe that.

1. Of coarse they do! They advertise finacing options along with the product they are trying to sell. Things like buy now, no payments for 12 months and crap like that get stupid impulsive people to buy things when they dont have the money.
2. I have never given in, but I see products that I would like to have and wish that I could take them home with me today. I am smart enough though to save up to buy no essential items with cash only.
