I’ll be talking about promotion and how the promoted pieces can move.

    If you place a piece within the enemy camp I would ume though I’m just getting familiar with the game.

    i have a question. if you are already in the enemy camp, shouldn’t you already be promoted? like when you showed the bishop? and why would the pond not promote? it would be a better piece!

  3. You are obliged to …
    You are obliged to promote if you move a piece to a position where not promoting would mean it would have no subsequent valid moves. Ie you must promote pawns or lances when moving to the back row, and must promote knights moving to either of the back 2 rows.
    These rules also apply to “drops”. (See video 6).

    yea i saw that, but if we get them to the end of the board then how can we expect to move them again. since a lance, pawn, knight can’t move backwards.

  6. Lance and Knight …
    Lance and Knight will lose their unique way of moving after promotion. So we sometimes we choose not to promote them.

    I tried making the captions for lesson#1 myself.
    As for lesson#2, one of my viewers from Germany made it and sent it to me. He also made captions for lesson#3 through #5, but I have to do some checking and correction to it before posting it. However, I havn’t been able to take time for that…

    I’ve really enjoyed your lessons so far. Your voice and accent are quite soothing. Sometimes I put a video on in the background when I draw. it’s so nice to finally get a grasp of the game =)

    A question though, if I may: Suppose that an opponent captured a promoted piece (IE: Dragon Horse), would he then be able to deploy the piece on his side promoted? Or would it revert back to it’s demoted state?

    I apologize if this is explained later. Thanks again!
