But as me and my mate agree, unfortunatly not the age of the train. because as he sed that BR were in colossal debt to the government and they were also hosting discussion to privatise it.
Still the most …
Still the most compforatble train running on our network today - and still the fastest diesel train in the world, having achieved a top speed of 143mph.
The new IEP dielsel/electric/hybrid rubbish that the Govt is propsing will never match this superb piece of engineering.

Has nobody noticed that the music from about 1 min in sounds exactly like Star wars AND that the component being craned at 1′12″ looks exactly like the pit of the Millennium Falcon?
But this film was apparently made in 1976 BEFORE the release of Star Wars!
Weird coincidence or ????
Somebody else who …
Somebody else who doesn’t know what they are talking about. The APT after an initial public launch that went wrong in the worst winter for 30 years, the APT ran for I think atleast a couple of years as a relief train from Euston. The technology after the bugs were ironed out was a great success problem was Thatcher hated trains and it was her government that pulled the plug on its continued development. Built on a shoe string budget, the APT was streets ahead of the Iti and German technology
If the Beeching …
If the Beeching axes had been less severe, the deltics and Westerns would have lasted much longer because there would have been more railway lines left, and there would have been demand for any locomotives available!
It’s really quite …
It’s really quite strange to see them being built and being brand new…I know they don’t look that old when you see them from a distance, but in some ways you can tell that they’re getting on a bit!
That is true.. and …
That is true.. and the same could be said of the Westerns and eventually the class 50s but to be honest the 125sdeserve a place in our heritage.. mainly coz they are still the fastest diesels in the world and we British… designed & built them! touché
bastard things, …
