What are promotion opportunities for Navy Master at Arm’s in the reserves like?

I was just curious to see what the promotion opportunities are like right now for Master at Arms in the Navy reserve? I know the Navy has been heavily expanding this occupation and therefore that should give rise to promotion opportunities right?

Is there the ability to be promoted faster now that there is an increase in the Master at Arms occupation? Can one make petty officer 1st class within the first 6 months of being in the Navy if you start as an E3?

Any help would be great! Thanks a lot!

I think you mean third class petty officer which is a E-4 it is rare, but can happen. Petty officer second class and petty officer first class would be impossible to make. One you make it to E-4 it gets much harder to move up in rank unlike going from E-1 to E-4.

  2. The advancement opportunities for the MA rate are good in the Navy Reserve. However, it would be impossible for someone to go from E-3 to E-6 in six months, as the minimum time from E-5 to E-6 is three years.

There are several variables that determine advancement: time in rate, time in service, advancement exam score, evaluation scores, and the number of sailors to be advanced to a particular rank and rate. If one does well on the advancement exam and has good evaluation marks, a sailor could advancement from to first class (MA1) within about four or five years from enlisting.
