Where do you work?
G&R Publishing in Waverly, Iowa.
What do you do?
G&R is a small publishing company so I'm in involved in everything
from the product development to the design to the marketing of
the gift books we publish and distribute nationwide. My official
title is Marketing & Administrative Coordinator.
What is the
best thing about your job?
I started at G&R at a time when the company is growing and
changing a lot, which is exciting. Also, I feel very lucky to be
at a company where I can see a product move from concept to finished
product in a few weeks… and to be able to make key decisions
during that process. I'm also involved in the marketing for our
custom cookbook/fundraiser division and box factory that are all
under the same roof.
Why did you become a MAC member?
When I moved home from college a little over a year ago, I was
really hoping to get involved in a professional group of smart
and creative people in my community. I didn't know about MAC
and was lucky that it kind've fell into my lap through long-time
member and MAC advocate, Penny Sund.
How long have you been a
MAC member?
A little longer than 1 year.
What is your favorite memory of MAC
or past program?
I really enjoy all of the programs, but I have to say that the
presentation on advertising from someone at Carmichael Lynch
last fall was pretty fun! Also, it was great to be able meet
and listen to the keynote speaker from CreativeBloc5, Terri Langhans.
Have
you been on any committees or been a Board member?
I was on the CB5 Committee last year and, currently, am on the
MAC Board as Student Outreach Chair.
If so, would you recommend
this experience to others?
Being a member of the Board and getting involved in committees
has been a great way to get to know current members beyond the
monthly events and it has really helped to understand more about
what MAC is and does.
What is one thing you are looking forward
to this MAC year?
I'm looking forward to the Addy awards (which have a great theme
this year!) and to the Leinenkugels presentation in April.
What
is one thing you wish MAC had or did?
MAC seems to draw such great speakers, that I can only say that
I wish there were more programs. I am pleased, however, with
how MAC seems to offer something for everyone, as well as, programs
both during the lunch hour and in the evening.
Who do you nominate
for Member Spotlight for next month?
Steve Schneider of Woolverton Printing
Spare time?
I played softball in college (Northwestern University) so I was
dying to get involved in some kind of athletic activity after
I moved home. This past year, I've played on a slow-pitch softball
team and in a volleyball league, both which have turned out to
be hilarious experiences. Also, I love to travel! The picture
shown was taken during a recent "sibling
weekend" in D.C. That is me in the middle between my brother,
Jason, and sister, Laura. You can see the Jefferson monument behind
us. |
