Big Old Expensive Phone Company Ad

Posted on July 6th, 2009 by admin in advertising company | 25 Comments »

This is that great Comcast cable ad with the old phone company execs singing broadway-style. They don’t have it on Comcast.com, but they darn well should.

PS - I did a search and the ad was created by Goodby, Silverstein & Partners (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goodby_Silverstein_&_Partners), which was apparently named “Agency of the Year” by Adweek magazine in January 2007. Couldn’t find any info on the actors, but they all do a great job.

About MPC

MPC creates high-end digital visual effects and computer animation for the feature film, advertising, music and television industries. A wholly owned subsidiary of Thomson, our bases in Soho, London and Santa Monica LA and are purpose-built facilities, each with a dedicated digital infrastructure designed and built for our future. Our studios are inspirational, spacious and welcoming, creating both an intimate yet professional environment.

We take technology very seriously and continually invest to ensure we have the most appropriate tools for the job, however, our priority lies with our talented team of artists, producers and developers, our production services to our clients and the quality of our product.

MPC works on some of the most exciting commercials in the world today. By mixing fresh talent from different cultures, weve built a dynamic team of artists and a diverse creative portfolio. Recent work has included spots such as Garth Jennings, Good Stuff for Fox’s biscuits which features a stylised computer generated panda/dog hybrid, Nicolai Fuglsigs Ford Kuga spot Blank Canvas, Juan Cabrals Cadbury Trucks, Fredrik Bonds Carling ads Space and Out as well as Frank Budgens, Sony Bravia Play-doh and Pleixs Bacardi campaign including the VES award nominated Sun spot. The team were also instrumental in contemporary classics such as Juan Cabrals Cadbury Gorilla’s Moment, Jonathan Glazers Sony Bravia Paint and the Volkswagen Golf GTI, Singin in the Rain (Dir. N-eo).

International feature film work that MPC is proud to have worked on includes more than 860 shots of creatures, armies and environments as lead vendor for Andrew Adamsons Narnia; Prince Caspian and key character animation and environment sequences for the Roland Emmerichs recent 10,000 BC. We also carried out all the visual effects work for Tim Burtons Sweeney Todd; the Demon Barber of Fleet Street and Shekhar Kapurs ‘Elizabeth: The Golden Age.

The team has created effects for all of the films in the Harry Potter franchise and are currently excited to be completing shots for the sixth movie in the franchise, The Half Blood Prince (Dir. David Yates). We are also turning over shots for Watchmen (Dir. Zack Snyder), the next Bond film; Quantum of Solace (Dir. Marc Foster), The Wolf Man (Dir. Joe Johnston), Prince of Persia (Dir. Mike Newell) and Angels and Demons (Dir. Ron Howard).

Digital connectivity means that when working on international projects there are no communication boundaries. Work in progress can be uploaded and viewed via MPCTV, our bespoke online approval system. We are also able to offer remote Telecine grades between the MPC facility in London and other international locations around the globe.

MPC also has a department dedicated to developing CG for TV programs and Music Videos; recently the team has completed work for Terry Pratchetts Colour of Magic, the sequel to our VFX BAFTA Winning effort for Sky Ones adaptation of Terry Pratchetts Hogfather both directed by Vadim Jean. We also won a VES award for visual effects in a music promo for the Killers’ Bones promo (Dir. Tim Burton.)

We also won a D&AD Black pencil for work developing the new Channel 4 screen idents (Dir. Brett Foraker), other current TV credits include; the BBC HD promo and the Channel 4 Hand Guns trailer. The TV team have also won an Emmy for their work on Virtual History The Secret Plot to Kill Hitler (Dir. David McNab) through Tiger Aspect for The Discovery Channel.

What are the best advertising techniques for small business? Compare the return on investment (ROI) of outdoor advertising versus print and visual media.
